Ethiopia’s dependence on imported edible oil has long been a concern, but the Belayneh Kinde Group’s PhiBela Industrial Complex is addressing this challenge head-on. This massive facility, located in the Amhara region, has rapidly become the country’s largest producer of refined palm and soybean oil, with a daily production capacity of 1,500 tons.

Meeting Domestic Demand:
The PhiBela complex has been instrumental in reducing Ethiopia’s reliance on imported edible oil, which previously accounted for a significant share of the nation’s foreign currency expenditure. The locally refined oils not only ensure affordability for Ethiopian households but also maintain high quality to meet international standards.

Economic Benefits:

• Job Creation: Over 2,000 jobs have been created at the facility, providing opportunities for factory workers, transporters, and support staff.
• Empowering Farmers: By sourcing raw materials such as soybeans and palm nuts locally, the complex is creating a sustainable market for Ethiopian farmers.
